On Wednes­day 12th June 2019 Bois­dale Life Mag­a­zine, host­ed the third annu­al Bois­dale Life Edi­tors Lunch and Awards, in asso­ci­a­tion with avi­a­tion spe­cial­ists Jet­fly, to thank and cel­e­brate all of the writ­ers, inter­vie­wees and key part­ners that have sup­port­ed and par­tic­i­pat­ed in the suc­cess of Bois­dale Life mag­a­zine over the last five years.

The rela­tion­ship between Bois­dale and its cus­tomers extends beyond food, drink and music to an iden­ti­fi­able and diverse approach to life, and the event was a cel­e­bra­tion of the won­der­ful writ­ers that gave Bois­dale Life its strong­ly lib­er­tar­i­an and free-think­ing media voice.

Bois­dale Life Mag­a­zine was, in part, found­ed on the ideals of lib­er­tar­i­an­ism and often address­es real or per­ceived infringe­ment by the gov­ern­ment on indi­vid­ual lib­er­ties. Con­trib­u­tors to the mag­a­zine have includ­ed, Tom Park­er Bowles, William Sitwell, Claire Fox, Ella Whe­lan, Mark Lit­tle­wood, Roger Boo­tle, Bruce Ander­son, Nico­lai Tol­stoi and Nick Fer­rari, to name a few, many of whom attend­ed the con­grat­u­la­to­ry lunch. Oth­er promi­nent guests includ­ed polit­i­cal com­men­ta­tor and tele­vi­sion pre­sen­ter Andrew Marr, entre­pre­neur Nan­cy Del­l’O­lio and Gog­gle­boxstar Mary Killen.

The event hosts — Bois­dale Life Edi­tor-in-Chief, Ranald Mac­don­ald and Man­ag­ing Direc­tor of Bois­dale Media Andrew Davies – also thanked guests at the lunch for con­tri­bu­tions made to oth­er areas of the mag­a­zine – notably the music con­tent, excel­lent food & drink cov­er­age, eco­nom­ics & pol­i­tics, trav­el and cel­e­brat­ing the big inter­views that have been con­duct­ed over the last five years. Co-host and last year’s Best Trav­el Col­umn Win­ner Stan­ley John­son gave a speech in which he men­tioned that his son Boris John­son was mak­ing his pitch for Tory leader the same day and added, ​“some­one said I should be at Boris’s launch. I said ​‘No! I’m going to Boisdale’s LUNCH.”

The lunch began with The Botanist Gin & Dou­ble Dutch Ton­ics, J Vine­yards Cuvee 20 Brut NV, Whit­stable Bay Blonde Lager and was fol­lowed by a three-course lunch con­sist­ing of Dunkeld smoked salmon, car­away seed crum­pet, sour cream & salmon caviar accom­pa­nied by Both­am 76 Series Mar­garet Riv­er Chardon­nay 2017; Roast dry aged fil­let of Aberdeen­shire Angus beef, Wye Val­ley aspara­gus, but­tered spinach, smoked pota­to purée & Girolle mush­room sauce with Both­am 80 Series Coon­awar­ra Caber­net Sauvi­gnon 2018; and Selec­tion of British cheeses: Lin­colnshire Poach­er, Gold­en Cross, Mrs Bell’s Blue, Stink­ing Bish­op, oat cakes, pick­led wal­nuts, fresh pears served along­side Sir Ian Both­am Sin­gle Vine­yard Barossa Shi­raz 2013.

The win­ners, list­ed below, received framed cer­tifi­cates, J Vine­yards Cuvee 20 Brut Cham­pagne and stun­ning Mon­te­grap­pa pens. Mon­te­grap­pa, the first Ital­ian man­u­fac­tur­er of supe­ri­or writ­ing instru­ments, was found­ed in 1912. Peer­less crafts­man­ship has defined this Ital­ian brand, known around the world for its cre­ativ­i­ty and styling.
