About Boisdale

"In a minimalist world, Boisdale offers the very finest from ages past"

Boisdale is named after the remote port on the beautiful Isle of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, off the North West coast of Scotland. It was home to the Macdonalds of Boisdale – the senior cadet branch of the Macdonalds of Clanranald, the largest and most anciently Royal of all the Highland clans. There are more than three million Macdonald clansmen throughout the world – all of whom can lay claim to this magnificent heritage, which has been charted down the generations.

Today, Ranald Macdonald, the elder son of the 24th Chief of Clanranald, hosts Boisdale’s restaurants and bars. Boisdale captures the essence of these centuries of proud tradition with its warmth, informality and end of empire atmosphere, reminiscent of a Highland country house.

Boisdale offers relaxation and entertainment throughout its diverse range of dining rooms and bars, each with its own unique style, character and atmosphere. The many period details, including richly panelled walls and an eclectic collection of classic and modern paintings and prints, provide a perfect setting for live jazz from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s.

Boisdale represents the quintessence of Highland hospitality. It is a haven for the epicure, the connoisseur and the gourmet – its underlying principal “to provide discerning guests with the finest possible selection of consumable luxuries”. The legendary wine list extensively covers the “ancien[ne] regime” and its former colonial outposts; the Cuban cigars must represent one of the world’s largest restaurant collections; the choice of Scottish malt whiskies is so extensive that they literally fill the walls; whilst the menu offers meat, game, seafood, shellfish and, of course, haggis – sourced direct from Scotland and superbly prepared and presented. All combine to fulfil the ideal that is Boisdale.
