Celebrate The Glorious 12th at Boisdale Restaurants!

Enjoy a traditional Roast Grouse & Glass of Claret for £48.50

August 11 2023

From Mid-August, grouse fans are set to flock to Boisdale of Belgravia, London’s greatest Highland haunt, to celebrate the Glorious Twelfth - the start of the grouse season and the highlight of the game gourmet calendar. This year the British restaurant with Scottish roots will spoil game connoisseurs with two specials from each restaurant Head Chef, to enjoy their favourite ground-nesting bird of the heather moorlands, unique to the UK.

The red grouse in Gaelic translates to ‘bird of the heather’. It is an emotive symbol of Scotland both because it is so delicious and also because grouse shooting has been a part of Scottish history for the last 200 years. As a result the grouse habitat is managed very carefully encouraging other scarce Mooreland bird species such as pipit, and ring ouzel to also flourish.

Ranald Macdonald, proprietor, and founder of Boisdale is fully embracing the season: “Every year grouse brings a sense of excitement. Grouse shooting is not only a celebration of a great Scottish tradition resulting in a feast fit for a king, it protects the environment by controlling the grazing of livestock allowing heather and wildlife to thrive. It also generates about £150 million every year for the UK economy and supports approximately 2,500 full time jobs. I’m thrilled to be able to offer customers this rich gamey bird this year and, I hope, for many years to come”.
