Boisdale Mixologist Hannah Lanfear Crowned Top Bartender In London

March 25 London, UK. G’Vine, Gin de France, is excited to announce the winner of the Gin Connoisseur Program (GCP) 2013 London Preliminary.
The London GCP Preliminary was held at the Paramount Soho on the 25 of March. Rebecca Seal, presenter of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and spirits guru Salvatore Calabrese joined last year’s GCP winner, Pawel Rolka and blogger Emma Stokes to form the judging panel for the competition. Hannah Lanfear scored highly for her knowledge of G’Vine and gin as a category, her presentation and interaction with the panel as well as for the quality of her creation for the event, the Mary Jean.
Sebastian Kasyna, bartender at Coq d’Argent was awarded third place, Andreas Tsanos of Spirit Level, Baku, was second.
Hannah Lanfear will now join Jamie Jones, winner of the Manchester 2013 GCP preliminary, as one of the UK representatives at the GCP international finals, taking place in Cognac in June. The final round of the GCP will see 15 of the best bartenders from across the globe tested to their utmost in a 16th century manor, the home of G’Vine Gin.
Hannah Lanfear said, The GCP is respected within the drinks industry as a reputable and demanding competition and I’m honoured to have won the London Preliminary. I’m excited to have won a competition that asks bartenders to face the vote of the audience, as well as a panel of high caliber judges.
The idea of the Mary Jean was to create a classic yet contemporary drink, to reflect the spirit of G’Vine. G’Vine Nouaison was the perfect choice to highlight the spicy cardamom and cassia bark notes of my cocktail as it’s smooth yet robust.”

Launched in 2010, the GCP has redefined global bartender contests. Today, it is widely seen as one of the bar world’s toughest contests.
2013 sees the GCP adopting the theme L’Edition Ambassadeur. As well as finding the world’s best gin bartender, GCP challenges in 2013 will identify the world’s best potential brand ambassador. The Gin Connoisseur 2013 will have the best bartending skills but also the largest gin knowledge and the best etiquette. The L’Edition Ambassadeur theme is reflected in the overall prize: US$3,000, a personal and tailor-made training program from Philip Duff (one of the world’s firstglobal brand ambassadors and winner of the Golden Spirit Award 2012 as Tales of the Cocktail’s Best Presenter), an elite presenting & media-training course, and the chance to present seminars at both Tales of the Cocktail 2013 and Bar Convent Berlin 2013.

Philip Duff, who has helped set up the contest said, Ever since the first GCP in 2010, we noticed that the best competitors and finalists were being snapped up by drinks firms to be brandambassadors – some just weeks after Finals! At the same time, there is a tremendous interest in the job of brand ambassador, and it’s a logical career progression for any ambitious bartender. Although several other brands havetried to hire their own ambassadors by running a contest, designing an edition of the GCP that gives bartenders the chance to acquire the skills for the next stage of their career fits nicely with G’Vine’s DNA of being traditional, but unconventional. What other brand would support a contest where you’re offering free training to bartenders who may get hired by your competitors? G’Vine takes the long view – the more knowledgeable gin bartenders, and ambassadors there are out there, the better this great spirit category will be viewed by everyone. That’s why I feel privileged to be asked to help run this contest, every year.”
The GCP 2013 L’Edition Ambassadeur was launched on January 21st2013.

Invitational Preliminary contests are being held in major cities around the world, and each Preliminary features an industry-leading seminar, a Cocktail challenge and the G’Vine Bartenders’ Ball, where each competitor earns points by running their own one-man bar during a party for local bartenders, media and consumers. The 12 national winners from the US, the UK, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Australia and Japan, plus three Wild Cards from countries where no Preliminary is held, will be flown to France in June for a week of unforgettable experiences and challenges with Gaz Regan and Philip Duff, ending with the crowning of the G’Vine Gin Connoisseur 2013 at the end of the G’Vine Summer Ball!
