a warm-up to Burns Night, Boisdale of Bishopsgate hosted a dinner with a guest of honour: Stanley Phillips, the US Embassy’s councillor for Agricultural Affairs. The US has banned the import of haggis since the Seventies. “I’m glad to say I’m no longer a haggis virgin,” said Phillips as he tucked in. On Sunday November 16th 2014 Boisdale of Canary Wharf saw cigar aficionados and celebrity cigar smokers from around the world gather for The Spectator Cigar Awards Dinner 2014, sponsored by Mehmet Kurt of Kingwood Stud, founded by Boisdale. Arnold Schwarzenegger was crowned The Spectator Cigar Smoker of the Year and Kelsey Grammer, Hollywood star, was a runner-up for the Spectator Cigar Smoker of the Year 2014.
Boisdale hosted a fundraising lunch to support the Queen Elizabeth II September 11 Garden in New York and its twin in London. The Garden lunch was hosted to celebrate friendship between the United States, the UK and the Commonwealth and at the same its twinning with the Garden terrace at Boisdale Canary Wharf. A formal unveiling ceremony of a plaque was held at 12.15pm, followed by the lunch.
For one night only the terrace at Boisdale Canary Wharf was transformed into a beach with sand and palm trees. Models from luxury swimwear brand Orlebar Brown were on hand to pour drinks including chilled Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc and served the best beach food imaginable inlcuding lobster club sandwiches, truffle burgers and mini fish & chips. Straw hats and sunglasses were provided with prizes given away for the best beach dress.
hotly-anticipated première of ‘Seve’, the Seve Ballesteros biopic at the Empire, Leicester Square was followed by an afterparty at Boisdale of Belgravia. Guests were treated to culinary delights crafted by Boisdale owner Ranald Macdonald and the Executive Head Chef Colin Wint, who developed a menu that reflected the taste of Ballesteros’ home country, including stone crab, empanadas, octopus and squid ceviche, and Serrano ham croquettes for the stars of the film and their guests.
