On Tuesday 4 October 2011 Boisdale of Canary Wharf will be hosting the UK premiere of what promises to be the next British box office hit - musical romantic comedy First Night directed by Christopher Menaul (Prime Suspect) and starring Richard E. Grant and classical crossover superstar Sarah Brightman.
Producer Stephen Evans (The Madness of King George, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, The Wings of the Dove, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) who inspired a fashion for Shakespeare in recent British cinema now plans to bring Mozart to mainstream film audiences and for his launch party he chose the most spectacular live music venue to open in London for decades.
Stephan Evans, hopes that First Night – a story of love's fluctuating fortunes set against a backdrop of visual and vocal beauty - will be a box office hit. "It's a bit of fun, like a soufflé. The proof will be in the eating". The film fuses the stately grandeur of Gosford Park with the magical music of Amadeus as leading industrialist Adam stages a production of Mozart's Cosi Van Tutte at his country house in order to impress the woman of his dreams and enlists the aid of a troupe of sexy young singers. It is not long before life imitates art as relationships flourish and flounder.
