The First Event of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
Friday 1 & Saturday 2 June

The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897. This is undoubtedly one of the most important racing days of all time and certainly for those who cherish our Queen, a poignant day to celebrate a life dedicated to her country and people, and reflect upon the joys and challenges that her reign has seen over the last 60 years. Perhaps one of the Queen’s greatest pleasures in life continues to be her dedication to racing. More than 200,000 race goers are expected to attend the Investec Derby Festival this year and global television audiences of over 1 billion are anticipated. We hope to see the return of the Queen’s horse Carlton House in The Investec Coronation Cup. If Carlton House were to win the Queen would be absolutely delighted and nearly a quarter of the world’s population would be celebrating with her… We’ll have to wait and see!

The most prestigious enclosure available throughout the Festival will be the Boisdale Enclosure, located next to the Queen’s Stand on The Prince’s Lawn. Part of Epsom’s Premier Enclosure, the Boisdale Enclosure badge will entitle you to access both the Queen’s Stand and Grandstand Enclosures should you wish. The Prince’s Lawn is situated on the finishing line between the Queen’s Stand and the Owners and Trainers Prince’s Stand. Lunch will be served inside the pavilion in which giant flat screen televisions will show all the racing. The Boisdale Enclosure extends all the way to the rails. Quite simply, there is not a better position from which to observe some of the finest quality thoroughbred horseracing in the world. The dress code will be suits on Investec Ladies Day and formal top hat and tails on Investec Derby Day.

The Boisdale exclusive facility will include a magnificent Whisky & Cigar Bar and an all-day complimentary Oyster & Champagne Bar. At the caviar reception Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2002 champagne will be served. As the Queen arrives on Investec Derby Day a toast will be proposed with Chivas Royal Salute 25 year old whisky. The lunch will include Scottish lobster and the very finest dry aged Aberdeen Angus fillet of beef accompanied by exceptional white Burgundy and Claret. Traditional tea will be served with Boisdale Vintage 2005 Rosé Champagne. Betting facilities will be located within the Boisdale Enclosure, so there will be no reason to leave! After the races the party will continue with more Champagne and cocktails and truly the ultimate Frank Sinatra tribute from Stephen Triffitt and his big band.

As a very special leaving present to commemorate the day, guests will receive a Fortnum & Mason’s Hamper. Boisdale Jazz & Cigar Club members and friends have the opportunity to register interest, with no obligation, to purchase badges for The Boisdale Enclosure one week ahead of their being made available to the global market. There are 180 places available per day.

After a day of judging with 585 oysters shucked over the two varieties of oyster tasted and 13 producers represented in front of 15 academic judges, the results are finally in from the inaugural Boisdale & Wright Brothers Oyster Tasting Championship 2011.

Poole, Dorset supplied byDorset Oysters in the Rock category and Loch Ryan supplied byRossmore Oystersin the Native took the gold medals at the event held at Boisdale of Canary Wharf in association with Champagne G.H. Mumm on Friday November 4, 2011 but the day was a triumph for the British Isles’ oyster industry as a whole.

“The oyster tasting turned out to be even more thrilling than we had hoped,” says Boisdale founder and owner Ranald Macdonald. “The quality was incredibly high and even the judges were astounded by the variety of oysters on offer. The days of people ordering ‘half a dozen oysters’ are long gone; now the discerning shellfish lover wants to talk about a given oyster’s flavour profile, its provenance and production. People now know their Maldons from their West Merseas, their Colchesters from their Caledonians. At Boisdale, we are finding more and more diners are comfortable tasting and talking about oysters just as they would wine.”

After a rigorous and nail-biting blind tasting, the judging panel selected oysters for the top award as well as silver and bronze in both categories. The judges marked the oysters on appearance i.e. meat-to-shell ratio, flavour & minerality.

	Winners:

	Rock Category:

Gold – Poole, Dorset supplied by Dorset Oysters

Silver – Maldon Rock supplied byMaldon Oysters

Bronze – Portland supplied byFleet Oyster Farm, Dorset

	Native Category:

Gold – Loch Ryan supplied by Rossmore Oysters

Silver – Duchy of Cornwall supplied by Wright Brothers

Bronze – Maldon supplied by Maldon Oysters

	The Judging Panel:

Joe Warwick, Tom Parker-Bowles, Dai Francis, Robin Hancock, Lucas Hollweg, Trevor Gulliver, Dominic Prince, Richard Harden, Bill Knott, Ranald Macdonald, Nicki Kerman, David Loewi, Douglas Blyde, Henry Deedes and Nina Caplan.

Oyster lovers can taste all the oysters with podium places on Boisdale’s ‘Six Medal Plate’ available at all Boisdale and Wright Brothers Soho restaurants in London for the duration of the Boisdale and Wright Brothers Oyster Festival. To ensure that as many as people as possible have the opportunity to taste these spectacular oysters, Boisdale and Wright Brothers will be offering them at half price Monday to Friday during the festival at ‘Crazy Hour’ from 5pm to 6pm. (Please note that there will be a limit of 84 oysters per customer per ‘Crazy Hour’.)

The Oyster Festival takes place from November 8th to December 1st at Boisale of Belgravia, Boisdale of Bishopsgate and Boisdale of Canary Wharf and at Wright Brothers Soho.

Wing in to Boisdale, London’s greatest Highland haunt, to celebrate the Glorious Twelfth and the start of the grouse season. The Scottish restaurant group will offer diners Roast Grouse on Crouton, Game Chips, Watercress, Bread Sauce & Game Jus accompanied by a glass of Château Rahoul 2005 for just £35 from 18th August until the end of October.

The game dish including a glass of outstanding Bordeaux wine from Champagnes & Châteaux, an independent wine shipper owned by the famous champagne family of Alain Thiénot, priced at just £35 ensures diners will make a significant saving when enjoying grouse at Boisdale; the cost independent of offer is £51.40.

Grouse, an emotive symbol of Scotland, has enjoyed sympathetic management for years which allowed its economic importance to be fully recognised and, at the same time encouraged the welfare of other Mooreland bird species such as pipit, ring ouzel and wheatear which are showing such a sad decline today.

Scotland boasts one of the world’s most sought after sporting experiences in driven grouse shooting; it is unlike any other form of sporting shooting and provides a fusion of breathtakingly beautiful natural surroundings with the thrill of fast-moving wild birds which vary their speed and direction with the contours of the hill beneath them.

Ranald Macdonald, proprietor and founder of Boisdale, is fully embracing the season with a return to his ancestral roots by taking on the ‘Macnab’ challenge this year. The challenge requires a salmon, a stag, and a brace of grouse all to be taken on the same day, but Mr. Macdonald remains undaunted: “The philosophy of Boisdale is distinctly Hebridean, so the Macnab challenge is a great way to embrace Scottish tradition and see in the season. I’m thrilled to be able to serve customers traditional grouse for such a superb price.”
The Discovery Show will be recorded every Wednesday night at Boisdale of Canary Wharf and broadcast on Jazz FM every Tuesday night at 8pm. The show will comprise two unknown jazz acts that in the opinion of Jazz FM merit discovery by the British jazz loving public.
